Solid creatine monohydrate is relatively stable when kept dry and sealed, but heat and moisture accelerate its conversion to creatinine. This degradation involves intramolecular cyclization, a process that removes water and forms a less useful compound for phosphocreatine metabolism. Powder stored under cool, dry conditions can remain within specification for extended periods, though exact shelf life depends on packaging, humidity, and initial purity. Aqueous solutions degrade faster than dry powder, with pH and temperature influencing the rate. Because degradation is gradual, analytical testing is used to confirm potency at manufacture and during stability studies.
Quality control for creatine monohydrate typically combines identity, assay, and impurity tests. High-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection is common for separating creatine from creatinine and related substances. Nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy can confirm molecular structure, while titration may assess acid-base content. Moisture content, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbial limits are checked according to applicable standards. These tests help distinguish compliant material from powders that have degraded, been diluted, or contain manufacturing residues.
Handling practices aim to limit moisture uptake and thermal exposure. Containers should stay closed when not in use, and storage areas should avoid direct sunlight, strong heat, and high humidity. Caking can occur when powder absorbs water, even if the creatine itself has not fully degraded. Aqueous stock solutions are best prepared fresh when needed because they are less stable than the solid. Open questions include how different excipients, packaging materials, and climate conditions affect long-term stability across global supply chains.
Quality control of creatine monohydrate relies on a combination of identity, purity, and moisture tests. High-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection is widely used to separate creatine from creatinine and other related nitrogenous compounds. Spectroscopic methods such as infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance provide structural confirmation. Because the material is a hydrate, water content is measured separately, often by Karl Fischer titration. These tests together establish whether a lot meets a defined specification.
Manufacturing processes can leave trace amounts of dicyandiamide, creatinine, or residual solvents, depending on the synthetic route and purification steps. Heavy metals, arsenic, and microbial contamination are also monitored for food or pharmaceutical grades. Particle size distribution can affect dissolution behavior and blending uniformity, so it may be specified for certain applications. Analytical results are reported on a dry basis or as-is basis, and the difference matters when comparing certificates of analysis. Open questions remain about how minor impurities influence long-term stability under varied storage conditions.
Stability studies typically examine the effects of temperature, humidity, and light on creatine monohydrate. Sealed containers stored in cool, dry conditions help limit moisture uptake and hydrolysis. Elevated temperature and high relative humidity can accelerate conversion to creatinine, especially in aqueous solutions. In solid dosage forms, excipients and processing steps may also affect stability. Published stability data are not fully consistent across studies because test conditions and analytical methods vary.

The compound was identified in the nineteenth century after chemists isolated a nitrogenous substance from meat extracts. Later work established its role in muscle energy metabolism and its conversion to phosphocreatine. Chemical synthesis of creatine followed, and industrial production made the monohydrate widely available as a purified powder. Interest expanded in the late twentieth century when researchers began studying creatine supplementation and muscle physiology. Historical accounts sometimes differ on exact dates and attributions, but the broad sequence from tissue extracts to synthetic production is well documented.
In the body, creatine is obtained from dietary meat and fish and is also synthesized from arginine, glycine, and methionine. Muscle stores creatine and phosphocreatine, which participate in the rapid regeneration of adenosine triphosphate during short, intense activity. The monohydrate form is used in research because it is chemically defined, stable as a dry solid, and relatively inexpensive to produce. Questions remain about whether other creatine forms offer meaningful advantages in absorption or tissue retention, and findings vary across studies and populations.
=== Middle Ages === Any preservation of this knowledge in literature from the Middle Ages is unknown, but medieval masons and some military engineers actively used hydraulic cement in structures such as canals, fortresses, harbors, and shipbuilding facilities. A mixture of lime mortar and aggregate with brick or stone facing material was used in the Eastern Roman Empire as well as in the West into the Gothic period. The German Rhineland continued to use hydraulic mortar throughout the Middle Ages, having local pozzolana deposits called trass.
Antimicrobial peptide resistance and lipid A acylation protein PagP is a family of several bacterial antimicrobial peptide resistance and lipid A acylation (PagP) proteins. The bacterial outer membrane enzyme PagP transfers a palmitate chain from a phospholipid to lipid A. In a number of pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria, PagP confers resistance to certain cationic antimicrobial peptides produced during the host innate immune response.
Claire Darke, former mayor of Wolverhampton and a longtime Labour councillor, resigns from the Labour Party, citing disillusionment with its direction under Keir Starmer. She specifically criticizes the party's stance on austerity and its "morally wrong" position on Gaza, which she sees as neglecting the suffering of the Palestinian people. 25 June – Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan begin their state visit to the United Kingdom. 2024 United Kingdom general election date betting controversy: The Conservative Party withdraws its support for Craig Williams and Laura Saunders as election candidates. Cabinet minister Alister Jack, who previously said he had won £2,100 by betting on the date of the election, then said he was joking, issues a statement in which he says he did not place a bet on the election. Russell George, the Senedd member for Montgomeryshire, becomes the fifth Conservative politician to be investigated by the Gambling Commission for election betting. The Metropolitan Police confirms that the Gambling Commission are investigating a further five police officers for placing bets on the date of the election. Labour suspends Kevin Craig, their candidate for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, after the Gambling Commission launches an unrelated investigation into him for placing a bet against himself losing in his constituency. === Competing products === Because sucralose, unlike aspartame, retains its sweetness after being heated, and has at least twice the shelf life of aspartame, it has become more commonly used as an ingredient. This, along with differences in marketing and changing consumer preferences, caused aspartame to lose market share to sucralose during the early 21st century.
== Production == Hexane is chiefly obtained by refining crude oil. The exact composition of the fraction depends largely on the source of the oil (crude or reformed) and the constraints of the refining. The industrial product (usually around 50% by weight of the straight-chain isomer) is the fraction boiling at 65–70 °C (149–158 °F).
Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4). It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism), including a severe form known as myxedema coma. It may also be used to treat and prevent certain types of thyroid tumors. It is not indicated for weight loss. Levothyroxine is taken orally (by mouth) or given by intravenous injection. Levothyroxine has a half-life of 7.5 days when taken daily, so about six weeks is required for it to reach a steady level in the blood. Side effects from excessive doses include weight loss, trouble tolerating heat, sweating, anxiety, trouble sleeping, tremor, and fast heart rate. Use is not recommended in people who have had a recent heart attack. Use during pregnancy has been found to be safe. Dosing should be based on regular measurements of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and T4 levels in the blood. Much of the effect of levothyroxine is following its conversion to triiodothyronine (T3). Levothyroxine was first made in 1927. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. Levothyroxine is available as a generic medication. In 2024, it was the second most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 80 million prescriptions.
Title II of Act, the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), helped align US law with the UN Single Convention, with "many of the provisions of the CSA ... enacted by Congress for the specific purpose of ensuring U.S. compliance with the treaty." The CSA's five drug Schedules, an implementation of the Single Convention's four schedule system, categorized drugs based on medical value and potential for abuse. Under the new drug schedules, cannabis was provisionally placed by the administration in the most restrictive Schedule I, "until the completion of certain studies now underway to resolve the issue." As mandated by the CSA, Nixon appointed the National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse, known as the Shafer Commission, to investigate.

== Veterinary use == Pethidine provides analgesia for 60 to 90 minutes in the cat and dog. Pethidine is less effective in horses, with IV, SC, and IM administration failing to provide thermal antinociception. Epidural administration of pethidine into the caudal area provided 4-5 hours of analgesia with no cardiovascular depression and only minor sedation. Due to the short duration of analgesia and side effects pethidine is not commonly used with other opioids being used instead. Pethidine is vagolytic but high doses cause bradycardia due to cardiac depression. Pethidine is metabolised by the hepatic enzyme CYP450 via N-demethylation to produce normeperidine. Normeperidine is excitotoxic and can cause myoclonus when too much pethidine is administered. The treatment for these side effects are benzodiazepines. Histamine release following IV administration can cause flare reaction, pruritus, hypersalivation, urination, defaecation, and tachypnoea. IM injection can cause localised oedema and erythema.
Aerogels are a class of synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component for the gel has been replaced with a gas, without significant collapse of the gel structure. The result is a solid with extremely low density and extremely low thermal conductivity. Aerogels can be made from a variety of chemical compounds. Silica aerogels feel like fragile styrofoam to the touch, while some polymer-based aerogels feel like rigid foams.
== Mechanism of action == Telithromycin prevents bacteria from growing, by interfering with their protein synthesis. Telithromycin binds to the subunit 50S of the bacterial ribosome, and blocks the progression of the growing polypeptide chain. Telithromycin has over 10 times higher affinity to the subunit 50S than erythromycin. In addition, telithromycin strongly bind simultaneously to two domains of 23S RNA of the 50 S ribosomal subunit, where older macrolides bind strongly only to one domain and weakly to the second domain. Like many other protein synthesis inhibitors, telithromycin can also inhibit the formation of ribosomal subunits 50S and 30S.
The psychodynamic perspective developed out of the psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud. The core object of psychoanalysis is to make the unconscious conscious—to make the client aware of his or her own primal drives (namely those relating to sex and aggression) and the various defenses used to keep them in check. The essential tools of the psychoanalytic process are the use of free association and an examination of the client's transference towards the therapist, defined as the tendency to take unconscious thoughts or emotions about a significant person (e.g. a parent) and "transfer" them onto another person. Major variations on Freudian psychoanalysis practiced today include self psychology, ego psychology, and object relations theory. These general orientations now fall under the umbrella term psychodynamic psychology, with common themes including examination of transference and defenses, an appreciation of the power of the unconscious, and a focus on how early developments in childhood have shaped the client's current psychological state.

Keep it in a sealed container in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and moisture. Dry powder is more stable than prepared solutions.
It can cyclize into creatinine, particularly in water or under heat. Creatinine does not support phosphocreatine energy buffering in the same way.
Laboratories commonly use chromatographic methods such as HPLC, along with spectroscopy and titration, to confirm identity and quantity. Moisture, elemental impurities, and microbial limits may also be tested.
Purity is commonly assessed by HPLC, which separates creatine from related compounds such as creatinine. Water content is measured separately by Karl Fischer titration. Together these results help calculate the actual creatine content in a sample.
